Resolution No.(161): "Ruling on the Cartoons Employed in Teaching the Rules of Islam"

Resolution No.(161)(27/2010) by the Board of Iftaa`, Research and Islamic Studies:

"Ruling on the Cartoons Employed in Teaching the Rules of Islam"

Date: 17/1/1432 AH, corresponding to 23/12/2010 AD.

 

All perfect praise is due to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds; and may His peace and blessings be upon Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions:

During its  twelfth session held on the above given date, the Board reviewed the following question:

I would like to produce cartoons that teach children moral lessons, such as honesty and helping neighbors. This is done through drawing characters, making them move, walk and talk. This is in addition to the fact that these cartoons are an approximation and not close to what`s natural. Moreover, I work for a news agency where I draw and move electronic cards to send congratulations over various types of occasions. I also draw cartoons for didactic stories included in children`s magazines.

After prolonged deliberations, the Board decided what follows:

Cartoons which teach the rules of Islam, virtuous manners and Islamic etiquettes are permissible, because they have a positive influence on the formation of a child`s personality through developing his capabilities, enhancing creativity, enhancing religious and cultural information and teaching him standard Arabic.

If this is the theme of these cartoons, then there is no harm in watching and drawing them, because they are considered lawful educational facilities.

Prophetic Sunnah permits making dolls for children to play with; therefore, it is better to make cartoons that inscribe the Islamic education in the minds of the younger generation instead of those that contain violations to Islamic Sharia. And Allah Knows Best.

What is the ruling on forgetting an integral of the prayer?

Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon our Master, the Messenger of Allah.
 
Whoever forgets an integral (Rukn) of the prayer and remembers it before reaching the equivalent point in the subsequent unit (Rak'ah), must return to it (i.e., perform it) and complete his prayer, then perform the prostration of forgetfulness (Sujud al-Sahw) at the end of his prayer. However, if he remembers it after reaching the equivalent point in the subsequent unit, the Rak'ah in which the integral was forgotten is invalidated, and the current unit takes its place; he then completes a full Rak'ah to compensate and performs the prostration of forgetfulness.
 
It is stated in Nihayat al-Muhtaj ila Sharh al-Minhaj (Vol.1/P.543): 'If he becomes certain at the end of his prayer, or after the Salam—provided the interval is not long according to custom and he has not stepped on an impurity—that he omitted a prostration from the final Rak'ah, he must perform it and repeat the Tashahhud, as his previous Tashahhud occurred before its proper place. If the omission was from a Rak'ah other than the final one, he must perform a full Rak'ah, because the deficient unit was completed by a prostration from the subsequent one, rendering the rest of that subsequent unit void.' When is Istikharah (guidance prayer) Du`a offered, before Tasleem (saying asalamu alikum warahmatu allah wa barakatuh to end the prayer), or after it?

It is offered after Tasleem.

What is the ruling on performing Tarawih in sets of four rak‘ahs with only one Tasleem?

It is not permissible to combine more than two rak‘ahs with a single Tasleem in Tarawih prayer. Whoever does so, their prayer is invalid. Shaykh al-Islam Imam Muhammad al-Ramli (may Allah have mercy on him) stated: "If a person prays four rak‘ahs of the Tarawih prayer with a single Tasleem, it is not valid if they did so intentionally and with knowledge [of the prohibition]. Otherwise, it becomes an 'absolute voluntary prayer' (nafl mutlaq); because it is contrary to what has been prescribed." [Nihayat al-Muhtaj, Vol.2/P.127].

What is the ruling on attending relatives` parties held in public halls, or hotels since if we don`t, we will be subjected to their admonition?

If such parties involve mixing between men and women, or forbidden acts such as listening to songs with sinful lyrics, then attending them is forbidden from the view point of Sharia since people`s admonition is nothing compared to Allah`s, The Almighty`s, wrath.
