Resolution No.(101) by the Board of Iftaa`, Research and Islamic Studies

 “Sharia Ruling on Lying in Sale”

Date: 4/4/1427 AH, corresponding to 3/5/2006 AD

 

 

 

 

Question:

 

Is it permissible for a trader to say that a certain item is made in Italy-for example-while it is either made in China, or made in China and shipped to Italy, or most of its parts are made in Italy and some of them are made in China?

Answer: 

The Board is of the view that a Muslim-whether a trader, a salesman, or whatever his work may be-must be truthful in all that he says and always tell the truth about each item that he promotes. It is forbidden for him to resort to lying and cheating under any circumstances. Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said: “Truth leads to piety and piety leads to Jannah(Paradise). A man persists in speaking the truth till he is recorded with Allah as a truthful man. Falsehood leads to transgression and transgression leads to the Hell-fire. A man continues to speak falsehood till he is recorded with Allah as a great liar.“ {Bukhari & Muslim}. He also said: “He who deceives isn`t of us.“ {Muslim}. And he (PBUH) said: “A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim, so it is impermissible for a Muslim to sell a deficient item to his brother without mentioning that to him “ {Bukhari}. I have asked a marriage official to conclude my marriage since I have no proxy and, being an adult, I can act as the proxy of myself, but he refused. What should I do?

All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May Allah`s peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.
In order for a marriage to be valid there must be a Wali (Guardian) for the woman: father, brother, paternal uncle or any paternal relative. If there isn`t any, then the judge can act as the woman`s guardian and conclude the marriage contract. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.

What is considered a woman`s Awrah (parts of the body that must be concealed during prayer) while offering prayer, and is her foot part of it?

A woman`s whole body is considered an Awrah while offering prayer except the hands and the face. Thus, her foot is an Awrah as well. And Allah Knows Best.

My eyebrows are very thick. Is it allowed to reduce them by cutting?

It is allowed to reduce thick eyebrows by cutting them, however, it isn`t allowed to pluck or make very thin. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.

What is the ruling on paying a sum of money to Saudi citizen in return of having Saudi residence? It is worth noting that this transation is labelled as a "worker's visa" but I am not going to work as such only to facilitate having it?

Allah The Almighty Says (What means): "O you who have believed, fear Allah and be with the truthful" [At-Tawbah/119]. False statements contradict truthfulness, and it is not permissible to write them. A Muslim has the right to live in any Islamic country, and those who prevent him will be accountable before Allah about their action and the justification for the prohibition. And Allah Knows Best.
