Resolution No.(212): "Ruling on Satellite Channels that Pretend Curing People with Ruqia"

Date Added : 05-10-2015

Resolution No.(212) (2/2015 A.D) by the Board of Iftaa`, Research and Islamic Studies:

“Ruling on Satellite Channels that Pretend Curing People with Ruqia“

Date: 21/Jumada Al-Olah/1436 A.H, correspomding to 12/3/2015 A.D

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.

The Board has reviewed, in its third session held on the above date, the question sent by His Excellency, the Director General of Media Commission, Dr. Amjad Al-Qadhi, and reads as follows:

Some satellite channels broadcast programs and ads. that pretend treating diseases by the Quran and Al-Ruqia Al-Shariyah {Quranic verses and Prophetic supplications}. Could you inform me of your opinion as regards such method of treatment, and is it permissible for these channels to broadcast such programs for profit?

After careful study and deliberation, the Board decided what follows:

Nowadays, treatment with “Al-Ruqia Al-Shariyah” has become a means of deceiving people and employing religion for achieving private worldly benefits. This has become the job of some channels which seek to make people believe in superstitions in the name of the Quran although they know deep down that Allah has sent it down as a means of guidance, light, and belief, and not to be used for eating up people`s money, achieving fame or misleading them from the  true Sunnah of treatment which the Prophet (PBUH) commanded Muslims to follow as reflected in His hadith: “Seek treatment for there is no disease that Allah has created, except that He also has created its treatment, to the exclusion of one disease and that is  geriatric old age.” {Abu Dawood}. Every Muslim is capable of making Ruqia, governed by the conditions stipulated in Sharia, to himself and to his family, and not to adopt it as a profession for obtaining a profit and eating up people`s money unjustly.

Therefore, it is incumbent upon the officials in charge of media and religious affairs to stop all channels that pretend to cure diseases by the Quran and al-Ruqia al-Shariyah as a means of making a profit as well as programs that promote such a thing, since protecting the religion of Allah against such acts and maintaining its purpose of guiding people is an obligation. And Allah Knows Best.

Summarized Fatawaa

What is the ruling on praying alone (munfaridan) in a row, and what should I do if I enter the mosque together with another person, and there is only a single gap in the first row with no second row present — should I fill that gap in the first row, or should I stand together with him in a new second row?

All praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon our master, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
If a person enters [the congregation] and finds no space available in the row, it is recommended for him — after making his opening takbīr for the prayer — to gently pull someone from the row in front of him to pray alongside him, provided he senses that this person would be agreeable to it. If that person does not agree, then he prays alone, and there is no dislike attached to his doing so in that case.
If he ends up praying alone [behind the row], it is sunnah for him to stand directly behind the imam. Then, if someone else arrives, that person stands to his right; and whoever comes after them stands to his left — and so on — such that the imam remains centered in the middle of the row. This is done so that everyone attains the reward of congregational prayer.
As for the case where two people enter the prayer together, and there is a gap in the row wide enough for only one person, then the two of them should pray together in a new row [of their own], and whoever arrives after them should fill that original gap. This is because if only one of the two fills the gap, the other would end up praying alone [which is to be avoided when it can easily be prevented].
Al-Khaṭīb ash-Shirbīnī (raḥimahullāh) said in Mughnī al-Muḥtāj (Vol.1/P.494): "If he does not find space, then it is recommended for him, while still standing, to gently pull a single person from the row toward himself after making his opening takbīr — out of caution, so as to avoid the position held by some scholars that a person's prayer standing alone behind the row is not valid.
Az-Zarkashī and others said: this should only be done if it seems he would agree to it; otherwise, he should not pull anyone — indeed, doing so becomes impermissible, out of fear of causing discord (fitnah). It is recommended for the person being pulled to cooperate and agree, so that he may attain the reward of assisting in righteousness and piety (al-birr wat-taqwā). However, he should not pull one of two people [praying together] from the row, since this would cause one of them to end up praying alone. This is why the 'pulling' described here takes place only after the opening takbīr [i.e., once the person doing the pulling has already validly begun his own prayer]."
Accordingly: it is sunnah for you to pray alongside the person praying alone, and then, if someone else arrives afterward, you may go and fill the gap in the original row. And Allah, the Exalted, knows best.

Is it permissible for a pious Muslim woman to stay with her husband who had quit praying out of laziness?

Quitting prayer is one of the major grave sins that come after disbelieving in Allah, but the wife of such a person isn`t considered divorced, rather, she should exert all her efforts in order to bring him back to the way of Islam. However, if his sin is likely to lure her from the way of Islam, then she had better separate from him by lawful means such as Mokhal`aa (When a wife pays a compensation for her husband in return for divorcing her). Moreover, if she exercises patience, and remains steadfast on her faith, then there is no harm in doing that.

What is the ruling of Islamic Law on leaving the Sunnah prayer of Dhuhr due to fatigue?

Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings upon our master, the Messenger of Allah.
According to the general rule, a Muslim should strive to maintain the Sunnah prayers before and after the obligatory prayers (al-sunan al-qabliyyah wa al-ba'diyyah). One is permitted to pray them sitting from the outset, but if one leaves them due to severe fatigue, there is no objection to doing so. It is recommended (mustahabb) to make up (qadā') a time-bound supererogatory prayer (nafl mu'aqqat) at any time if it was missed.
Al-Shirbīnī (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "If a time-bound supererogatory prayer is missed, it is recommended to make it up according to the more authoritative view (al-azhar), based on the hadith recorded in the two Ṣaḥīḥs: 'Whoever sleeps through a prayer or forgets it should pray it when he remembers it.' This is also supported by the fact that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made up the two rak'ahs of Fajr when he and his companions overslept in the valley and missed the dawn prayer until the sun had risen [narrated by Abū Dāwūd with an authentic chain]." And Allah, the Most High, knows best.
