About the General Fatwa Department

The Fatwa Department of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was founded in 1921. Since its formation, it has relied upon Hanafi fatwas which were in use during the Ottoman era, and the Mufti has answered the questions of members of the public, whether they relate to worship or financial transactions or personal statutes, and it has assigned a mufti to each judge in cities both large and small. Wearing colored contact lenses for medical treatment is permissible, and wearing them as an adornment is also permissible, provided that she isn`t seen while having them on by non-Mahrams. And Alalh Knows Best.

What should a person who doubted having missed a pillar of prayer do?

All praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds. The prayer of one who doubts having missed one of its pillars is valid, and nothing is due on him/her since having a doubt after offering the act of worship doesn`t undermine its validity. And Allah Knows Best.

Should the father command his ten-year-old daughter to wear the Islamic dress?

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His Peace and Blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions.

The father should order his daughter to put on the Islamic dress once she turns ten, in order for her to get used to it. And Allah Knows Best.

Is it permissible for the woman to use her mobile phone while on the street?

Modesty should be observed by the woman at all times, so she is free to use her phone while on the street as long as it is done within the limits of Islamic manners. And Allah The Almigty Knows Best.

Is it permissible for me to make up for my late father`s missed fasts? and should I make an intention to this end by saying: "I intend to make up for my late father`s missed fasts?

It is permissible to fast on behalf of the deceased father in order to make up for his missed fasts, and you should make the intention for offering fast from night time, but uttering the intention isn`t a condition. And Allah Knows Best.

What does the name "Mai`es" mean?

"Mai`es” and "Mais`san": strutting. "Mai`es" : a tree` of high-quality wood, and giving this name to your daughter is permissible.

Is it permissible to make up for missed fast after the beginning of the second half of the month of Sha`ban (the month before Ramadan)?

Yes, it is permissible, but one who had missed fasts should hasten to make up for them. As for the Hadith mentioned in this regard, the prohibition is for offering absolute voluntary fasting. And Allah Knows Best.

Is it permissible for a religious young Muslim woman to love a young man for Allah`s sakes?

Such love between the two sexes is from the devil`s evil suggestions, and a pure Muslim woman should beware of such a matter, and she shouldn`t mix with non-Mahrams (Marriageable ).
