Statement by the General Iftaa` Department on His Majesty King Abdullah II`s Decision Regarding the Restoration of the Lands of Baqoura and Ghamr

All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.

Allah the Almighty says {what means}: " Before this We wrote in the Psalms, after the Message (given to Moses): My servants the righteous, shall inherit the earth." {Al-Anbiyaa`, 105}.

The General Iftaa` Department appreciates the courageous stance of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein to terminate the Baqoura and Al-Ghamr agreement, which represents a historic moment in the history of Jordan and the Jordanians.

This historic achievement is added to the record of the Hashemites, which is full of great accomplishments in preserving the Arab and Islamic identity, and defending lands and sanctities, including the Hashemite Custodianship over Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock.

This wise decision achieves the noble royal vision that emanates from the constants of Jordanian sovereignty and aims to preserve every atom of the soil of this dear country so that Jordan remains dear and lofty, and the right returns to its owners.

In this occasion, we remember the sacrifices of the Arab Army in defending Jordan and preserving its dignity.

We pray that Allah protects Jordan under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II.

The General Iftaa` Department.

Summarized Fatawaa

How to pay Zakah (obligatory charity) due on articles of merchandise?

Articles of merchandise are estimated by their whole sale market price at the end of each lunar year, and (2.5%) of their value is paid as Zakah whether it (value) went up, or down compared to actual purchasing price, and whether the increase (profit) was in the article itself such as an increase in the animal`s weight, or in the prices themselves. And Allah Knows Best.

What is the ruling on someone who curses the religion or commits an act of disbelief during the day in Ramadan?

Whoever apostatizes (leaves Islam) while fasting, their fast is invalid. Cursing the religion is an act of apostasy (may Allah protect us from it). Such a person must return to Islam by pronouncing the Shahadah (testimony of faith), seek Allah’s forgiveness, refrain from eating and drinking for the rest of the day, and make up for that day’s fast later.

For some time I have been searching for a guiding shaykh to teach me the spiritual path (*sulūk*) and the Islamic sciences, but I have not found one. What should I do?

All praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon our master, the Messenger of Allah.
There is abundant good in this Ummah, and the scholars who guide and nurture are never cut off. The student of knowledge should strive in seeking them out, ask diligently after them, and draw from their learning.
As for one who cannot find a guiding and nurturing shaykh, he should send abundant prayers and peace upon our master the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), while keeping constantly to dhikr and worship and abstaining from the forbidden. For that will bring him to his goal in traveling toward Allah the Exalted. Imam Muḥammad al-Sanūsī (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “I have seen it said by some of the imams of Sufism that whoever lacks shaykhs of spiritual training (shuyūkh al-tarbiyah) should increase his invocation of blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), for by it he will reach his goal.”
The scholar Aḥmad Zarrūq al-Mālikī (may Allah have mercy on him) said in Qawāʿid al-Taṣawwuf (p. 86), rule no. 114: “Dhikr is the decree of sainthood (manshūr al-wilāyah). Whoever is given dhikr has been given the decree. Our shaykh Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Ḥaḍramī (may Allah be pleased with him) said: ‘Keep constantly to dhikr and abundant blessings upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), for it is a ladder, an ascent, and a path to Allah the Exalted when the seeker does not meet a guiding shaykh.’” And Allah Almighty knows best.

Does using a wet miswak while fasting break the fast?

A fasting person should ensure that the miswak is dry when using it.
However, if the miswak is slightly moist but does not release any liquid when squeezed, then its use does not break the fast.
