Statement on Banning Forbidden Festivals

All perfect praise is due to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Mohammad, his family and noble companions.

Recently, there has been calls by some media outlets for holding festivals with unlawful names and immoral acts, such as the so called "Wine Festival."

We, Iftaa` Department, stress that calling for, holding and taking part in such festivals violates the teachings of Islam, negates authentic values of Islam and the customs and traditions of this Hashemite country of ours.

We, Iftaa` Department, call on all citizens to boycott these festivals because they corrupt country and people. We also call on the concerned authorities to ban holding such festivals to protect our true religion and the safety of our society.

We also highly appreciate the statement issued by the Ministry of Interior banning such festivals and holding their organizers accountable before the law.

We pray that Allah protects our country against sins, tests and trials, be they concealed or revealed. And all perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds.

Summarized Fatawaa

What is the ruling on swearing a false oath by the Holy Quran?

Swearing a false oath by the Holy Quran dips the oath-taker in Hellfire, and one who had done so should turn to Allah in repentance, seek His forgiveness, give back rights to whom they belong, and pay the oath expiation.

Who should pay the Zakah (obligatory charity) from the orphan`s money?

His/her guardian, and if the latter fails to do so, then the orphan himself/herself is obliged to pay the Zakah once he/she reaches puberty, and is capable of handling his/her own affairs. And Allah Knows Best.

Is it permissible to offer condolences to a non-Muslim?

All praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon our master, the Messenger of Allah.

It is permissible to offer condolences (Ta'ziyah) to a non-Muslim upon the death of their relatives. This constitutes a form of benevolent treatment (Birr) that we have been commanded to observe. Allah Almighty states {what means}: "Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes—from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly." (Surah Al-Mumtahinah, 60:8). And Allah Almighty knows best.

What do you say about someone who stays up all night on Laylat al-Qadr but misses Fajr prayer?

Such a person has deprived themselves of a great reward. Performing obligatory acts is more beloved to Allah than voluntary acts. Fajr prayer is an obligation, and performing it in congregation is equivalent to worshiping for the entire night. So how can someone neglect it while striving for voluntary prayers?!
