All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions.
There is no harm on having the meat of: hedgehog, fox and hyena as a meal, since they used to be considered of the good or desirable meals by Arabs, for Allah, The Exalted said (What means):" They ask thee (O Muhammad) what is made lawful for them. Say: (all) good things are made lawful for you." [Al-Maidah/4]. Besides, what Arabs used to consider as a good food or pure is lawful, and what they used to consider undesirable or impure food is unlawful, because the Holy Quran was revealed in their language; thusly, their opinion was based on their custom in interpreting the word "good things" according to Arabic language as mentioned in the above verse.
As for having canines inside the mouth of Hyena and Fox, this doesn't not considered an enough reason to make their meat unlawful for eating , because as been stated by Zoologists, they don't hunt with them(Canines); rather, they eat the remains of what other predators with canines hunt. The reason behind the impermissibility of eating predators, is not because they have canines, but for their methods in hunting represented by chasing the prey and using their canines to seize and devour while hunting it ; therefore, eating the meat of hyena, fox and the like is permissible since they don't possess or acquire the latter methods of hunting.
In conclusion, Jurists opinion regarding the permissibility of eating hyena's meat is based on the following Hadith, whereas it states (What means): "Ibn Abi Ammar said: "I asked Jabir bin Abdullah: 'Is the hyena game?' He said: 'Yes'" He said: "I said: 'Can it be eaten?' He said: 'Yes.'" He said: "I said: 'Did the Messenger of Allah say that?' He said: 'Yes.'" Abu Issa At-Tirmithi graded the above narration as a sound one." Kindly refer to (Mughni Al-Muhtaj pp.148 vol.6). And Allah Knows Best.
