Question :

How can a person tell that he/she is a believer or that Allah loves him/her?

The Answer :

Praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds.

Whoever wants to know that he/she is a believer must evaluate himself/herself according to the attributes of the believers mentioned in the Noble Quran since there are different degrees for faith, which increases with acts of obedience and decrease with acts of disobedience.

In fact, faith varies from one person to another depending on how close they are to Almighty Allah. Measuring Allah`s love to a person entails measuring that person`s love to Allah and adherence to His commands. Allah The Almighty Says (What means): "If ye do love God, Follow me: God will love you and forgive you your sins: For God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." {Al-Emraan, 31}.

However, a true faithful slave doesn`t reach the level of conviction save when his love to Allah is divided between fear and hope: fear of His punishment and hope for His mercy. Allah The Almighty Says (What means): "Verily those who live in awe for fear of their Lord; Those who believe in the Signs of their Lord; Those who join not (in worship) partners with their Lord; And those who dispense their charity with their hearts full of fear, because they will return to their Lord;- It is these who hasten in every good work, and these who are foremost in them. On no soul do We place a burden greater than it can bear: before Us is a record which clearly shows the truth: they will never be wronged."{Al-Mu`minoon, 57-62}. He also Says: "Their reward is with God: Gardens of Eternity, beneath which rivers flow; they will dwell therein for ever; God well pleased with them, and they with Him: all this for such as fear their Lord and Cherisher." {Al-Bayyinah, 8}. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.
