Question :

What is the ruling on stoning Jamarat Al-Aqaba from the northern side? Where there was a mountain on this side and recently removed, so people differed on stoning it from this side?

The Answer :

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His Peace and Blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions.

Stoning Jamrat Al-Aqapa from the northern side or any side is permissible since people used to stone Jamrat Al-Aqapa nowadays from any side due to crowdedness.

Al-Imam Al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on his soul) said :"It is recommended (for a pilgrim) to stand beneath Jamrat Al-Aqapa "at the middle of the valley" where Mecca becomes at his left side, Mena at his right and faces Jamrat Al-Aqapa, then he should stone it with pebbles seven times, and this is the correct manner according to Shafitees school of thought and the majority of Muslims scholars. Moreover, they believed that it is permissible to stone the pebbles at Jamrat Al-Aqapa from any side." [Sharh Moslim vol.42/pp.9-43]. And Allah Knows Best.
