Question :

What is the ruling of Sharia on accepting gifts from non-Muslims?

The Answer :

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds, and may His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.

There is no harm in accepting gifts from non-Muslims under the condition that the purpose isn`t to lure Muslims into giving up their religion. In fact, during the lifetime of Prophet Mohammad, Muslims accepted gifts from non-Muslims. For example, when they were cornered by the disbelievers in She`eb Abi Talib(valley of Abo Talib), when they migrated to Abyssinia, and in Medina where they received gifts from Abyssinia, Egypt, and Yemen. Al-Bukhari related in his "Sahih" the story when the Prophet (PBUH) and his companions were on a journey and found a woman from the disbelievers who gave them some water to drink and they gave her some food in return. And Allah knows best.
