Resolution No.(149): "Ruling on Consuming a Product Extracted from Crocodile Bones"

Resolution No.(149), (14/2010) by the Board of Iftaa`, Research and Islamic Studies:

"Ruling on Consuming a Product Extracted from Crocodile Bones"

Date: 2/9/1431 A.H, corresponding to 12/8/2010 A.D

 

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.

During its ninth session held on the above given date, the Board reviewed the following question:

Question: What is the ruling on consuming a food supplement extracted from crocodile bones?

Answer: After extensive deliberating, the Board decided what follows:

It is permissible to consume products that contain substances extracted from crocodile flesh or bone based on the Malikite Madhab (school of thought) and one narration of the Shafites and the Hanbalites, who permit eating crocodiles. And Allah Knows Best.

Is buying shares from the Arab Bank permissible?

Buying and selling shares owned by usrious companies is impermissble. And Allah Knows Best.

Is it permissible to perform Tayammum for a month due to a medical condition that requires avoiding water?

Tayammum is permissible so long as the above excuse lasts. And Allah Knows Best.

Is it permissible for a financially capable woman to pay the Zakat to her sons or one of them?

It is permissible for a mother to give her children from zakat if they are eligible to receive it, even though she is obligated to provide for them. This is based on the saying of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) regarding Zainab, the wife of Abdullah Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them): "Your husband and your children are more deserving of your charity" [Al-Bukhari]. Is it obligatory for a wife who has been abandoned for many years to observe the waiting period (iddah) after her husband passes away?

If her husband passes away, the wife is required to observe the waiting period (Iddah), even if he had abandoned her, because she is his wife and inherits from him, so she must observe the iddah after his death. And Allah Knows Best.
