Thus, the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Why is the color of your face changed?"……….." This Hadith is circulated throughout social media, is this permissible?

The Answer :

All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.

This Hadith has no origin and no scholar of Hadith has ever narrated it. It has no Sanad (Chain of transmission) in the books of Sunnah. However, it was mentioned in the book {Tanbeeh al-Ghafileen, P.264} by Abi Laith Al-Samarqhandi (Died 375H). This book of his is replete with fabricated Hadiths that the scholars of Hadith has warned against.

Al-Imam Al-Zahabi (May Allah have mercy on him) said about the writer of {Tanbeeh al-Ghafileen}: "His book is full of fabricated Hadiths." {Siyar `Alam Al-Nubala`, V.16: 323}. In other words, the writer doesn`t differentiate between fabricated and non-fabricated Hadiths, however, he doesn`t mean to fabricate lies against the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him).

The narrator, Yazid Al-Riqashi, to whom the above Hadith is attributed, isn`t trustworthy. Kindly check his biography in the book {Tahzeeb At-Tahzeeb, V.11:311} by Ibn Hajar.

The text of this Hadith resembles the Hadith of Omar Bin al-Khattab, which has a shorter context. The latter was related by Ibn Abi Al-Dunya in the book {Sifat Ahl Al-Naar, No.(158)} and al-Tabarani in {Al-Mo`jam Al-Waseet, V.3:89}. However, the latter is also fabricated for it includes some suspected narrators and fabricators of Hadiths.

The text of the Hadith mentioned in the above question is problematic and contradicts sound Hadiths, which confirms that it is fabricated and denied (Munkar). And Allah the Almighty knows best.
