Question :

What is the Sharia’s perspective on casting the newborn babies in garbage containers? And who should be accountable for this?

The Answer :

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions.

A Muslim is fully aware that taking person’s life is prohibited save for a just cause, for Allah, The Exalted said (What means):” Nor take life - which God has made sacred - except for just cause.” [Al-Isra’/33]. In addition, the Holy Quran stressed the prohibition of killing children whereas it stated (What means):” Kill not your children for fear of want.” [Al-Isra’/31].

Every child is born innocent and with a true faith of Islam, therefore killing or exposing him to real risk is prohibited regardless of the reasons, and whoever do so never understood or read the words of Quran nor been acquainted with the rulings of Islam. Yet this act used to be very rare within Islamic societies before being influenced with imported cultures. However, we (Iftaa’ Dept.) don’t agree on calling it phenomena, because casting the newborn babies in garbage containers is an individual incident and neither became common, accepted nor spread out within our societies. Therefore, knowing the ruling of Sharia in this regard won’t be enough since everyone is familiar with it, so there must be a real intent to arouse the public opinion against this ugly crime. And Allah Knows Best.
