Question :

I have a wound near my anus, and it keeps bleeding. Am I permitted to lead my family in prayer?

The Answer :

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds, and may His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions.

We ask Allah to favor you with a speedy recovery.

Islamic religion imposed no difficulties on people since Allah, The most Exalted, said (What means):", and has imposed no difficulties on you in religion." [Al-Hajj/78]. However, there is no harm for the aforementioned person to pray in the Mosque if he cleaned his wound and prevented the blood from flowing out over his body and the surrounding area. Further, if he couldn't do so then there is no harm on him. Moreover, in case he was praying in a Mosque and the blood was flowing out from of his wound all over the place and he experienced hardship in cleaning it, then there is no harm on him to leave the congregational prayer and to get out of the Mosque since jurists mentioned many excuses and cases that allow the praying person to leave Friday's prayer as well the congregational prayer if this could harm the Mosque and the praying persons.

Al-Imam Al-Rammly (May Allah have mercy on his soul) said (What means): "And the same applies to the persons who have an offensive odor , bleeding, person working as a butcher, people who work in impure places, septicus wounds, leprous person and using garlic for medication since using it will cause worse odor than eating it. Moreover, judge Aiyad reported that scholars prevented the leprous from: Entering the mosque, offering Friday prayer in it and mixing with people." [Nihayt Al-Muhtaj 2/160].

Nevertheless, the questioner is permitted to lead his family in prayer. And Allah Knows best.
