Question :

What is the ruling when a Muslim offering Tamattu, or Quiraan Hajj fails to slaughter the Hady (sacrificial animal) during the days of Tashreeq; consequently, the days of Tashreeq and the days of fasting passed before the Day of Arafah?

The Answer :

All perfect praise be to Allah. Blessings and peace be upon Prophet Mohammad and upon his family and companions.

A pilgrim who performs the Tamattu‘ or the Qiraan Hajj is required to offer Hady (a Hajj sacrificial animal). If he couldn`t afford it, then he is required to fast three days during Hajj and seven days when he returns to his country, but if he couldn`t fast during Hajj, then he can fast the ten days after having returned to his country. Still, he is required to separate the three days from the seven days with four days-The Day of Eid and the days of Tashreeq. It should be noted that it is permissible to slaughter the Hady after the days of Tashreeq for a pilgrim who is offering the Tamattu, or the Quiraan Hajj, and violated the restrictions of the Ihraam, or left an obligatory act of Hajj, provided that it is divided amongst the poor people of Mecca.

Fasting during the days of Tashreeq is invalid, and whoever couldn't afford the Hady and wanted to fast, then he should assume Ihram for Hajj on the sixth of ThulHijjah, and fast the sixth, the seventh, and the eighth so as to breakfast on the ninth ( the Day of Arafah ), the Day of Eid and the days of Tashreeq. And Allah Knows Best.
