Question :

Is it permissible to subscribe in Social Security system?

The Answer :

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds and may His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions.

The permissibility of the social security's subscription is based on jurisprudence framing in this regard to be either a donation or kindness but not a shareholder corporation, and this issue is clarified resolution of Iftaa' Board No. (133).

In addition, the subscriber neither is a shareholder partner nor has an authority to channel money; therefore, the burdens of the unlawful investment will not be his; it will be on the shoulders of the people in charge of such investment.

On the other hand, many lawful investments carried out by the Social Security Corporation, and based on jurists' opinions in this regard state that it is permissible to take mixed money that have lawful and unlawful sources and the burden of this is on the shoulders of the one who earned them in the first place.

We advise people in charge of the above corporation to avoid all unlawful investments and to fear Allah in peoples' assets, since having ill gotten money will lead the one who earned them to doom and lose this life and The Hereafter.

As well as, we advise the above corporation to involve only in lawful investments and to appoint a legal committee to assure achieving this idea.

Finally, subscribers are not accountable for any unlawful investment and it will be the burden of the one who takes such a decision. And Allah, The Almighty Knows Best.
